So, the new iPad from apple is out now. Not sure what to think of this. It’s definitely cool don’t get me wrong. When I first saw it as Jobs introduced it back in January, I was not very impressed for the the first time since I switched to Apple. It seems more like a bigger version of the ipod touch or the iphone without the phone feature. Then again I do live in an area where AT&T has crappy coverage where my iphone turns into ipod touch – but that’s a whole another story.  Do I want to own one?  Yes and No. Here is why.

Yes I want it because I like shinny things and iPad is most definitely shinny. Being a freelance web designer (saintauguste.com), I would like to optimize sites for the iPad. Maybe in the future. For now, I’m just gonna have to settle for Apple’s Safari Browser.  Other uses for me would be to look up recipes online since I love to cook. Bigger screen would definitely help reading the recipes better without having to zoom in and out with messy hands.

No. I don’t want it because I already have most of the features that I would use on the new iPad on my mini version called the iphone. Photos & Music experience will be nice on the iPad but my music and photo libraries are too large.  Maybe steaming from my iMac.  Not sure if this is available yet but I’m sure it will be soon.

What about movies? Apple keeps advertising the star trek ads all over the place. Why would I want to watch this awesome movie on a 9.7″ screen?  This is the reason home theaters are for. Way bigger HD screens and surround sound audio that shakes the room.  I don’t think I have ever watched an actual movie on my iPhone since I brought one home when it was released.

I think if apple adds a camera to this puppy in version 2, I might have to get one for my mom.  She travels a lot and not that crazy about computing. This would be perfect for her. It’s simple, and would be easy enough for her to use when in a wifi hotspot. Yay! I get to talk to her more often.

Well. That’s all I got for now.  I’ll update this if for some reason I bring one home.
